Cloudflare
Cloudflare is often how the domain is already run. We use it for DNS, cache, and the boring security that should not be a plugin.
What it is
Cloudflare is the edge company: DNS, CDN, DDoS, WAF, Workers, R2 storage, and a share of the web so large that when Cloudflare has a bad day, a lot of the internet has a bad day. Discord, Shopify, and Zendesk sit behind it. So do a huge number of sites that only wanted DNS and a certificate.
Workers and Pages are how it became a compute platform, not only a shield. The product people feel is speed and protection. The product teams buy is the network plus a place to run small code close to the user.
What it does
Teams use Cloudflare to put a CDN and a firewall in front of a site, to host Workers, to store assets in R2, and to manage DNS. Bot fight, cache rules, and zero-trust access are the enterprise layer.
We put it in front when the brief names performance or abuse. Tokens and the zone are yours. We do not leave a studio-owned DNS record as the live one.
