Notion

Notion is where a lot of teams already write. We can publish from it, or we can keep it as the brief and put the real site on a CMS that is built for the web.

notion.com

What it is

Notion is a workspace for documents, wikis, databases, and light project tracking. Teams write specs, handbooks, and content calendars in it because a page and a table can live in the same place. Figma, OpenAI, and Pixar have all been public about using it internally.

It is not a product CMS you should pin a production site to without a real pipeline. It is a working surface. Used as the source of marketing copy with an API in front, it can work. Used as the application database, it usually should not.

What it does

Companies use Notion for internal docs, hiring wikis, product specs, and editorial calendars. Some use the API to publish a changelog or a help centre. AI features sit on top of the same pages.

We write into Notion when the team already lives there. We do not make production depend on a page someone can archive by accident, unless that is an explicit, backed-up pipeline.

Why we use it

The brief and the notes, not the product.

The brief should not live in email. Notion can hold the IA. The site is still Next.js. When docs outgrow Notion, we move the pages into a typed CMS. Search and type improve on day one. The Notion file remains part of the repo story, not a secret.

If the public site is a Notion export, we have not designed a site.
